Surrounding Towns and Countryside

Surrounding Towns and Countryside

Several small towns in the surrounding area offer a wide range of homes, from lofts to new homes,  historic homes, and commercial properties.  The countryside in the counties near Lakes Oconee and Sinclair offers large and small tracts ideal for hunting, farming, timber, and equestrian estates.

The lakefront properties have benefitted from the open area and small-town lifestyles of Madison, Greensboro, Eatonton, and others.  Likewise, the towns and countryside have benefitted from the influx of new residents, bringing new businesses, jobs, and arts, education, and cultural growth.

There are four general types of properties:

Historic homes

These are homes built in the 1800's and early 1900's, and usually in one of the small towns in the Lake Country area.  Some have been restored to include modern appliances and systems, and some are candidates for restoration.

Madison is the best known, with a vibrant downtown and walking tours of the historic area (which was reportedly spared by General Sherman in his march to Savannah).  Other towns include Eatonton, Greensboro, and Union Point.

Off-lake homes

The area has also experienced off-lake construction of subdivision homes, townhomes, condominiums, and loft conversions.  Some developments offer pool, tennis, and golf facilities.

Farms and land

The pastoral countryside in the counties surrounding the lakes is gently rolling and quite varied.  Farms or vacant land can range from a few to several hundred acres.

Commercial

There are several lake-oriented commercial properties offering retail, office, and restaurant space.
